Librarian (2 Positions)

The appointee will either be responsible for, or required to work as part of a team, in one or a combination of the following sections of the Library: the provision of library information services to meet the needs of on-campus and distance education students, staff and general users; the acquisition of library materials, gifts and exchange; assisting in the production of library publications and other products; training of staff; cataloguing and classification of library materials according to AACR2 and the Library of Congress Classification Scheme, LCR1 and MARC21 in an automated environment.
Applicants must have: a professional qualification in Library Information Studies recognized by an accrediting body such as the Australian Library
and Information Association (ALIA); relevant work experience in academic libraries; proven experience in the provision of library services to distance and on-campus students and library users; sound knowledge and familiarity with library technology and automated systems; working knowledge and experience in the use of AACR2, LC classification and subject headings, LCR1 and MARC21; be familiar with IT and the use of the Internet, CD-ROMS and online databases; excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work evening and weekend duties.
For appointment to the higher salary level (Band 3), applicants must have more than 10 years direct relevant experience.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in training library personnel at the paraprofessional level; experience in dealing with library users in a multicultural environment; work experience in a developing country or understanding of life in developing countries and library management experience.

The position is available for a term of three years and may be renewed by
mutual agreement.
Salary Range:
F$44 721 to F$53 665 per annum
F$55 280 to F$72 736 per annum
(Inclusive of 15% Gratuity)
In addition to the above benefits, the University contributes 10% of basic salary to an approved superannuation scheme, provides airfare and
relocation costs where appropriate.
