JOB FUNCTIONS

AREA 1 : Selection and Cataloguing of Library Materials

1. Selects and orders books, periodicals, audio-visual aids, and other printed materials appropriate to the student population and staff instructional needs according to a standard selection policy.
2. Classifies, arranges and catalogues all materials for easy retrieval.
3. Manages the evaluation, acquisition and processing of books, materials and equipment for the library.
4. Records all library collections and acquisitions, conducting an annual inventory of books, materials and equipment, ensuring that all records are updated.
5. Consults with other libraries and bookstores on available recommendable books.

AREA 2 : Management of the Library

1. Assists the Administrative Coordinator in drafting the policies for the use of the library.
2. Ensures implementation of rules on library hours as well as the library policies, especially in preparing and distributing fine lists for overdue, damaged and lost books.
3. Maintains a daily circulation record, disbursing library materials to students and teachers.
4. Makes sure that all library collections, furnishings and equipment are well secured and in good condition.
5. Repairs damaged books, selecting books and periodicals for binding and, with permission, discarding materials that are no longer usable.
6. Provides the school administration with a recommended budget for library funds.
7. Reports immediately to the Administrative Coordinator of any damages, losses, and equipment that need repair.
8. Maintains statistical records of the library, the number of users, the number of acquisitions, vertical files, etc.
9. Administers the school’s discipline management plan by enforcing appropriate student behavior and conduct while in the library.

AREA 3 : Instructional Duties

1. Provides individual assistance in book selection as well as library enrichment, as appropriate.
2. Teaches the students library skills consistent with the school curriculum and assists with research for individual and/ or group projects.
3. Instructs the staff and students in the location and use of library materials and equipment, the services offered and the rules and regulations of the library.
4. Provides the necessary support for teachers in curriculum development and lesson planning and keeps them aware of available correlated library materials.
5. Prepares a schedule of activities for orientation, Book Week/ Literacy Week, and other library events.
6. Promotes recreational literacy activities which can enhance the students’ cultural and moral values.
7. Provides coordination regarding lessons in the library, viewing (if an AV is to be used), an other library activities to avoid overlapping in class schedules.
8. Updates the Library Corner/ Bulletin Board for important information, inspirational reading materials, as well as incentives for children to visit the library and read literary materials (e.g. Reader of the Month).

AREA 4 : Relationship with Children, Parents and Staff

1. Maintains professional and pleasant interactions with children, parents and staff in day-to-day encounters in the library, being able to model appropriate behavior, attitudes and speech.
2. Shows a helpful attitude towards the children, teachers and parents who are in need of library assistance.

QUALIFICATIONS

* A graduate of Library and Information Science or a Bachelor’s Degree Graduate of Education, major in Library Science from any reputable school.

* Must posses language and mathematical skills, reasoning abilities and computer literacy.

* Must be organized and has management abilities and good relational skills

SALARY GRADE

* P 9,000 – P12,000
