TERMS OF REFERENCE
Science Research Specialist for the Library
The PCHRD Library supports the mission of the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) to strengthen the scientific and technological base for health care delivery in the country through its vast and unique collection of materials on health and medicine that includes monographs, health researches, local S& T materials and access to specialty databases.
The PCHRD Library also offers linkages to the HERDIN database which provides information on locally made researches and related sites. The goal of the library is to provide health professionals with access to a wide range of information resources in the field of science and medicine. The library is also maintaining an on-line catalog system using an open-source software, the Php MyLibrary that is being used as a tool for faster access and retrieval of library materials.
To do this, PCHRD is looking for a Science Research Specialist that will assist in fullfilling the goals and mission of the library.
Required Qualifications/Competencies
A graduate of a university degree in library or information science
Must be a licensed librarian
Knowledgeable in library computer systems and have working skills on the use of the Internet
Must have a working knowledge of MS Office Applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Must possess good writing skills such as the capability to write reports and correspondences
Must possess good interpersonal skills such as the capability to inquire from users, specific and probing questions in order to obtain the exact need
Must have the initiative and creativity to effectively accomplish tasks requiring a high degree of accuracy and attention-to-detail
Knowledge of cataloguing rules, procedures, practices and can perform descriptive and/or subject cataloguing applying the AACR2, NLM and LC Classification schemes
Scope of Work
Responsibilities of the Science Research Specialist
Assist in library operations and management of resources including but not limited to the following:
Information Services that includes circulation and responding to reference queries
Technical Services (Cataloging, Indexing, Labelling)
Assist in the enhancement of existing library databases
Prepare monthly reports of library statistics
Facilitate and manage library housekeeping concerns including shelving
Performs duties and tasks that can be assigned from time to time by the immediate supervisor
Responsibilities of PCHRD
Brief the contractor on the above-mentioned work
Orient contractor on existing library systems and standards
Orient contractor on existing library development concerns
Prepare/provide relevant documents and materials
