Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Archives and Records Management Section, Commercial Activities Service, Facilities and Commercial Services Division, the Information Management Officer reports to the Chief of the Records Information Systems Unit. Within limits of delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: provide advisory services on recordkeeping practices including needs and business process analysis, especially with regard to electronic records; participate in recordkeeping improvement projects, contributing to feasibility studies, systems analysis, design, development and implementation; develop training materials and user manuals; develop retention schedules for records of United Nations offices to meet recordkeeping accountability requirements; contribute to the Section’s policy and guidance development in information management fields, including information disclosure, access policy, policies relating to digital records, etc.; liaise with other recordkeeping stakeholder groups. Perform a range of administrative duties in the areas of personnel management, contract management, budget and finance management and reporting, and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in archives and records management or information science, information systems, social science (history or international relations) or related field. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience in records management or information science, including records in electronic media, or other related area may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in archives, recordkeeping or information management functions. Experience with digital recordkeeping systems is required. Experience at the national or international level desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required; knowledge of second official UN language is an advantage.
Other Skills
Comprehensive knowledge of the Organization’s usage of information management and related information systems, policies, procedures and practices required.
