Librarian in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman

The Oman Studies Centre at the Sultan Qaboos University is a multidisciplinary research centre with an outstanding library collection. It offers an outstanding opportunity for an experienced librarian to manage the relocation of the Oman Room library into the new Centre building ensuring a minimum disruption of service.

The appointee will be responsible for designing a programme to continue to build and maintain the library of the Centre, as the leading Oman studies research resource in the world, for developing a digital library, and for curating the Centre’s museum facility.

13 years librarianship experience in a leading higher education institution in a research context is essential, and if possible some curating experience, and experience of working in a developing country. A Masters degree, preferably with a Middle East Studies element, and FCLTP or MCLIP or equivalent, are essential. Some Arabic language skills would be an advantage.

Annual salary equivalent between USD32,000-45,000 tax free, depending on experience. In the first instance the appointment would be for a 2 to 3 year term with scope for renewal. The Sultan Qaboos University offers annual return tickets to home country, free medical treatment, furnished accommodation, end of service gratuity and many other attractive allowances.
